Life Fitness Discover SE4 and Symbio console software version 5.08.17 and later include a new feature whereby the user interface will indicate when the console processor temperature is reaching high temperatures.
The possible messages shown could be either "Video has been disabled", "Workout is ending soon" or "High Temperature Alert".
This feature is build in to prevent sudden shutdown and black screen scenarios of the console, when the console is exposed to increased heat due to changed environmental conditions.
The messaging will inform the end users and will allow to cool off the console. Once cooled off, the console will function as normal again.
Please contact Life Fitness Support when this would happen more often, to review the thermal conditions of the console in question.
A message is displayed to the user when the console temperature reaches one of the following threshold:
- Threshold 1: 85°C / 185°F
- Threshold 2: 92°C / 197°F
The message varies, depending on the threshold.
Temperature Threshold 1
85°C / 185°F reached during a workout
If the user is is in a workout and actively running an entertainment app, the software will:
- End the entertainment app and take user back to the home screen, while remaining in the workout.
- On the home screen, a Thermal icon is added on the top left of the screen and the screen is dimmed to 82% brightness.
- Hide the entertainment app carousel on the home screen.
- Show a message stating the reason for app closure, but does not interrupt workout progress.
- The user can continue to workout and may choose any other available workout
85°C / 185°F reached, NOT in a workout
When the console is not in a workout, while the temperature reaches 85°C / 185°F, the software will show a thermal icon on the top left of the homescreen and dim the screen to 82% brightness.

Temperature Threshold 2
92°C / 197°F reached during a workout
While being in a workout, once the temperature reaches 92°C / 197°F the software will:
- Show a workout Shutdown message warning users that their workout will end.
- It will give users a 5 second countdown. If they do nothing after 5 seconds or press the End Workout button before the 5 second countdown ends, in both scenarios the user will be taken to the summary screen.
- After the summary screen, the screen will show the "High Temperature Alert" message as indicated below in the next paragraph.
92°C / 197°F reached, NOT in a workout
When the console reaches reaches 92°C / 197°F, while the console is not within a workout (any more), the software will:
- show a "High Temperature Alert" message on the screen, indicating: Your Workout has ended due to high temperature. Please allow the machine to cool before restarting." Nothing on the attract screen will be clickable until the recovery temperature (80°C / 176°F) is reached. At that point the message will disappear and the console will function normally again.
